This past Tuesday San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis talked with the NFL Network about the upcoming season. Davis was at the NFL’s Rookie Symposium where he was selected to talk to incoming NFL players.
One of the things Davis talked about in his interview was Niners’ divisional rivals the Seattle Seahawks and how they are “building dynasty.” Davis said,
I think it is a great division. You have a team like Seattle who is coming up. They are building a dynasty over there. They have some good players over there who are eager to win. These guys are starving. We have to really keep that in mind because these guys are coming to take us out. I respect them, just like I respect my team, but we want to win too. We are in it to win. We don’t want to lose, especially after last year. We get all the way to the Super Bowl [and] lose the game. We have to really take it upon our responsibility and put it all out there and play each game like it is our last game.
I agree with Davis that the Niners need to “respect them” but it’s a reach to say they are building a dynasty. In the last two seasons the Niners have made it to the NFC Champion game and won the NFC West. While the Seahawks have won just one playoff game and have had an 18-14 record since 2011. To me that does not look like a dynasty in the making. If anything, the Niners are closer to being a dynasty than the Seahawks.
