Schrags' final mock NFL Draft lands 49ers fast, promising offensive threat

The Niners don't trade Brandon Aiyuk in Peter Schrager's final mock draft for 2024, but they apparently take a player who could be his replacement.

NFL Network's Peter Schrager opted to send a speedy wide receiver to the 49ers in his final mock ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft.

The next few hours are going to be potentially grueling for San Francisco 49ers as they await final confirmation of the speculation surrounding wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's future.

With only hours counting down until the beginning of the 2024 NFL Draft, that speculation centers on whether or not the Niners trade their leading receiver from the last two seasons amid contract extension talks that, at least so far, have gone nowhere.

If Round 1 passes without any development, Aiyuk isn't likely to be traded and will play this upcoming season with San Francisco.

However, with one year remaining on his contract, it's possible the 49ers are looking at a long-term replacement for him, especially if there's an inevitability of Aiyuk departing via free agency in 2025, assuming no extension is reached.

That is very much in play even if Aiyuk remains on the roster by the conclusion of the draft.

And it also influenced NFL Network's Peter Schrager of Good Morning Football to give the Niners an Aiyuk replacement in Round 1.

Peter Schrager mocks WR Adonai Mitchell to 49ers in final 2024 mock NFL Draft

Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy took all the buzz from the NFL Scouting Combine with a record-setting 4.21 40-yard time, but it's his collegiate teammate, wide receiver Adonai Mitchell, who is arguably the better overall prospect.

Having ran a 4.32 40-yard time of his own, the speedy 6-foot-2 and 205-pound Mitchell is a playmaking target who'd be a quality fit in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense.

With Shanahan's wide receiver room potentially in need of help, Schrager had no problem mocking Mitchell to San Francisco at No. 31 overall.

"If Mitchell’s still on the board, this pick would make some sense," Schrager wrote of the mocked selection. "Consider it insurance for a WR room that’s the buzz of the league."

It's important to note that Aiyuk wasn't traded in Schrager's mock, but that wouldn't necessarily block a wide receiver selection by the 49ers right out of the gate.

Now, fans will have to count down those final hours to see if the GMFB host is on point with his prediction.
