Madden 25 reveals more evidence Brock Purdy is a top-10 quarterback
By Peter Panacy
Some are inevitably going to disagree, but EA Sports' hit Madden series identified Brock Purdy as a top-10 quarterback.
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy still has plenty of critics and doubters, many of whom just can't get over the fact he was the final selection of the 2022 NFL Draft.
No player picked at the very end of the draft should have this much success, right? It can't be of his own merits, right?
Despite mounds of evidence that prop him up as far more than a system quarterback, including the recent NFL Top 100 list for 2024 that placed the Niners' signal-caller at No. 28 overall, Purdy's haters haven't given up their quest to knock him down.
Well, those efforts just took another hit, thanks to EA Sports' hit video game series, Madden.
Brock Purdy lands in top 10 of Madden 25 quarterback rankings
All week, EA Sports and ESPN have been releasing Madden 25 player grades, and San Francisco even had two players named to the exclusive "99 Club," left tackle Trent Williams and the game's cover athlete, running back Christian McCaffrey.
Purdy still has a long way to go, as far as that group. But he did earn a spot on another coveted list: the 10 best quarterbacks for this year's game, coming in at No. 9.
As for the top 10, it's as follows:
- Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs (99)
- Lamar Jackson, Ravens (98)
- Joe Burrow, Bengals (93)
- Josh Allen, Bills (92)
- Dak Prescott, Cowboys (90)
- Tua Tagovailoa, Dolphins (88)
- Justin Herbert, Chargers (87)
- Jalen Hurts, Eagles (86)
- Brock Purdy, 49ers (85)
- Kirk Cousins, Falcons (84)
There'll inevitably be complaints and criticisms about almost the entirety of the top 10, namely after the first two names, Mahomes and Jackson.
And, yes. A lot of it will probably fall on Purdy, too. By now, though, it's nothing new. And the ones who are in charge of the video game ultimately get the final say about how the 49ers' man under center is rated.
