Brock Purdy's spot on NFL's Top 100 list shows he's no fluke

NFL players don't just feel Brock Purdy is a top-100 player.

No, they feel he's among the third best in the league.

While Brock Purdy has his doubters, landing high in the NFL's Top 100 list for 2024 suggests players around the league endorse him.

It might take some time for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy to shake the narrative that he's merely a system signal-caller, bolstered by an all-star cast of talent and immersed in a system under head coach Kyle Shanahan that fully maximizes the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft's abilities.

Winning a Super Bowl will help Purdy's cause. So will (eventually) playing with a less star-studded crop of talent, which could be the case within the next few years after his eventual contract extension eats up plenty of cap space, forcing the Niners to part ways with some of their star players.

Still, many fans and analysts have difficulty getting over the fact a seventh-round draftee has enjoyed so much success since his rookie year.

Purdy isn't necessarily aiming to appease those voices, though. Rather, his goal should be to gain approval from his teammates, coaches and the rest of the league, internally.

According to the 2024 NFL Top 100 list, he's doing just that.

Brock Purdy lands at No. 28 in NFL's Top 100 players entering 2024

San Francisco has had no shortage of players named to the NFL's Top 100 list for 2024.

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw came in at No. 76, while wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk landed at No. 66. And there'll probably be plenty more within the top 20, too, including standouts like defensive end Nick Bosa, tight end George Kittle, left tackle Trent Williams and running back Christian McCaffrey.

As for Purdy? Well, he landed at No. 28.

That puts him ahead of other comparable quarterbacks, including the Miami Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa (No. 36) and the Green Bay Packers' Jordan Love (No. 34).

It's important to know that this list is voted on by the players themselves, not hot-take pundits who aim to "stir the pot" by coming up with radical opinions to slander someone like Purdy, knowing fully well those talking points will get 49ers fans riled up.

By that measure, Purdy landing in the top third of all players (voted on by the players) is a pretty good endorsement no matter what.

Still, it might take some time for Purdy to fully shake that narrative that he's merely a product of his context.

As long as it gives him a proverbial "chip on the shoulder," that's fine.
