This would be a MASSIVE number, if it came to fruition.

At the moment, the San Francisco 49ers have a couple of contract situations on their hands.

Star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is in search for a new deal and is in the midst of a "hold-in," where he is showing up to the facilities but not practicing. On the other hand, All Pro offensive tackle Trent Williams is officially a holdout.

The team is hopeful that both situations will end up getting worked out, which will put fans at ease, once again. However, something that has to be at the forefront of the team's mind, and specifically John Lynch, is a future contract situation that will unfold.

Quarterback Brock Purdy is entering Year 3 as a pro, which means that, come next year, he will be in line to start negotiating an extension. The 2022 seventh-round pick has been a consistent, high-performing quarterback since taking over the job and is likely headed to make league history in 2025.

Why Dak Prescott holds the key to Brock Purdy's future contract extension

On one of the most recent episodes of Scoop City, a podcast hosted by NFL insider Dianna Russini and former pro quarterback Chase Daniel, the topic of quarterback contracts was discussed. Russini said she believes Dak Prescott is going to be the first quarterback to break the $60 million barrier, meaning his annual average earnings.

She went on to say, though, that she thinks Purdy is going to break that number next year.

Think on that for a second ... at one point, he was "Mr. Irrelevant," and now, Purdy is set to become the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history.

What a story.

Russini is one of the most well-respected and trusted NFL insiders around the league, so it is easy to take her word on something like this. And, she isn't the only one to share this sentiment, as we've pointed out recently.

This again leads one to think about the 49ers' current contract situations in the building.

Is it any wonder why Aiyuk and Williams didn't see their deals come sooner? This is an organization which has some big-time financial decisions to make and are already paying big bucks to some key names.

For Purdy, specifically, the future could mean he makes history. As of right now, he's still on that rookie deal, which Lynch and the Niners are going to enjoy every second of. But next year, that's when things change.
