Inaugural 49ers 53-man roster prediction with 2024 NFL Draft now complete

It's never too early to think what the 49ers roster might look like going into the 2024 season. With the NFL Draft smog clearing, let's take a look at what the 53 might look like.

It ended up being quite a breathless 2024 NFL Draft for the 49ers. Trading up and down reduced 10 picks at the start of the draft on Thursday to eight, including three quickfire fourth-rounders on Saturday's Day 3.

Following Saturday night's participation in the undrafted free agent feeding frenzy, the Niners now find themselves at the 90-man roster offseason limit. Cutting this to 53 in September will not be easy, particularly at some positions where depth was reinforced in the draft, such as wide receiver and the defensive backfield.

While things are fluid, let me step forward and take the first shot at predicting San Francisco's opening 2024 53-man roster.

The Quarterback Room

Brock Purdy, Joshua Dobbs, Brandon Allen (3)

It's good to start with an easy one.

Short of someone's arm falling off, I would be amazed if this isn't the three next season. Undrafted free-agent Tanner Mordecai has a slim outside chance of pushing Brandon Allen for No. 3, especially given the cap implications, but unless he blows the doors off in camp, it's very very unlikely. There probably aren't enough snaps to go around.

His best hope is likely a practice squad spot.
