49ers training camp 2023: 5 players who are tumbling down the depth chart
By Peter Panacy
49ers tight end Ross Dwelley
The proverbial "writing on the wall" might have already been there for tight end Ross Dwelley, who has seen his offensive snap counts decrease in back-to-back years to his fellow positional teammate, Charlier Woerner.
Following San Francisco's actions in the 2023 NFL Draft, grabbing two tight ends in Cameron Latu and Brayden Willis, Dwelley's tenure with the 49ers might be coming to a close despite being re-signed to a one-year deal earlier in the offseason.
George Kittle is the unquestioned No. 1 tight end of the bunch, yes. But the remaining two or three spots behind him are very fluid.
To date, it might appear that Latu and Willis will draw more long-term attention from the Niners coaching staff, and that'll relegate Dwelley to an unneeded commodity by the time the regular season rolls around.
