49ers training camp 2023: 5 players who are tumbling down the depth chart

Quarterback Trey Lance started the 2022 season as San Francisco's unquestioned starter.
A year later, he's QB3 on the depth chart, and that's quite the dramatic fall.
It'd be one thing if Lance had fallen one spot to Brock Purdy, who earned the right to be QB1 after helping the 49ers win five games to close out the regular season a year ago before advancing all the way to the NFC Championship game.
But, with veteran signal-caller Sam Darnold in the mix, Lance has yet to truly separate himself from his primary competition for the No. 2 spot on the depth chart.
Sure, both Lance and Darnold have had their share of ups and downs during camp. But Lance needed to leave no doubt.
There still is doubt, and that's why Lance is unfortunatley listed here.
