49ers training camp 2023: 5 players who are tumbling down the depth chart

It's good that these players have some more practices to get things right at 49ers training camp.

49ers running back Ronald Awatt

If we're being technical, undrafted rookie running back Ronald Awatt is already at the bottom of San Francisco's depth chart. It's hard to tumble down any further when he's at that particular spot.

The problem, though, is there is a growing gap between Awatt and the rest of the 49ers running back room.

Christian McCaffrey is already cemented in as the bell cow, while Elijah Mitchell, Jordan Mason and even the seldom-used second-year pro, Tyrion Davis-Price, have had their standout moments in training camp.

Plus, making things worse for Awatt, fellow UDFA rusher Khalan Laborn has had his share of promising moments, too, and the Niners won't have room for all of those five players above Awatt anyway.

Unless things change soon, Awatt is looking squarely at being waived in year one.
