With 49ers training camp underway, undrafted running back Khalan Laborn has wasted no time staking his claim to a spot on the final roster with a solid start to camp.

With training camp well and truly underway for the San Francisco 49ers, one of the most exciting things to follow is the camp bodies and undrafted free agents that essentially have a very long job interview to get onto the team.

The Niners are no strangers to undrafted players making waves and getting onto the roster, and the running back room might be the biggest example of this. The 49ers have had several undrafted free agents make it into the rotation, with the most recent being Jordan Mason last year.

This year certainly doesn't seem any different, with running back Khalan Laborn making waves with strong performances throughout camp that no doubt will have heads turning in his direction.

It isn't surprising that Laborn is showing talent. A former five-star recruit who left Florida State for Marshall after being kicked off the Seminoles for violating team rules, Laborn showed off his talents for Marshall with 302 carries for 1,513 yards and 16 touchdowns while also having 16 receptions for 116 yards in 2022.

After a strong pro day where his test results would have had him among the very best at the position in the NFL Combine, Laborn slipped through the draft and might very well be a stroke of good fortune for the 49ers.

The 49ers might not be able to stash him on the practice squad if these strong performances continue, so the question will be if the 49ers take that risk in allocating him there or if they keep him on the roster to be totally sure.

While it's too early to be totally sure whether or not Laborn will shape up to be a hidden diamond in the rough, he's certainly done enough to bear watching to see if he's the latest undrafted free agent to stick onto what will hopefully this year be a Super Bowl winning roster.
