San Francisco 49ers fans travel well.
And it's not just to relatively close cities hosting the Niners as the away team either, although the Los Angeles Rams have made soft admissions of ceding SoFI Stadium to the red and gold as "Levi's South," thanks to the overwhelming number of San Francisco fans who attend NFC West rivalry showdowns there.
But 49ers fandom far exceeds just the West Coast. Niners fans have shown up in massive numbers elsewhere on the road this season, too, including bouts against the New York Giants, New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
OK, but doesn't every fanbase have a loyal component of it that travels well?
Not necessarily. And, according to The Athletic, no fanbase travels and takes over opposing stadiums better than San Francisco's.
The Athletic declares 49ers fans the best at road takeovers
Alright, 49ers fans. Pat yourselves on the back for this one.
According to research performed by The Athletic during the 2025 season, the Niners have boasted the best-traveling road fans in the entire NFL, with Jason Goff declaring the Faithful averaging a 63-percent average at road games, according to Vivid Seats:

Well done, San Francisco.
Now, where exactly did all this start? According to Goff's take, it began back in 2014 when 49ers fans wholly dominated AT&T Stadium in an early season win over the Dallas Cowboys, and the trend has only gone up from there.
Especially in light of tickets being more readily available on secondary markets, plus the growing ease of different regional Niners fan hubs being able to connect on social media.
Granted, non-Niners fans may recall relatively empty Levi's Stadium days during some of those dark years of the previous decade. And it's been a joking point against the Faithful from other fanbases, true.
However, at least for those fans taking to the road, it sure seems as if San Francisco hears you.
We already know opposing teams do.
