49ers ironically will wear 'home' red jerseys for Week 2 road game vs. Rams
By Peter Panacy
The 49ers aren't going to be wearing their road whites for Week 2 against the Rams at SoFI Stadium, which means it's time to let the "Levi South" jokes flow!
There are two groups of people who are so happy the Los Angeles Rams moved back to Southern California after a long leave to St. Louis:
- Fans of the Rams living in the greater Los Angeles Area
- Fans of the San Francisco 49ers who also live in the greater Los Angeles Area
Judging from recent history, the latter group far outnumbers the former. Essentially every time the Niners have traveled to SoFI Stadium to take on their NFC West rivals, the crowd has been a dominant sea of red. Not blue.
No joke. Check it out:
"It did catch us off guard," Rams head coach Sean McVay told ESPN of the Niners-centric crowd after the 2021 regular-season finale "Just because of the way that it's been this year. It's been great, great atmosphere, great environment. Yesterday was the same thing, but there was a lot of red there. That was definitely a surprise."
Levi's South. Not SoFI Stadium.
On Sunday, with both teams boasting 1-0 records, San Francisco will travel south to take on Los Angeles at SoFI Stadium in what should again be another takeover by 49ers fans from the area and beyond.
And there's a bit of a twist, too.
49ers to get 'home team' treatment, will wear home jerseys vs. Rams in Week 2
Yes, the Niners are the road team. But they won't be wearing their road whites for Sunday's NFC West showdown.
No, even the team's official Facebook feed let us know San Francisco is acting as if it's the home squad:
"I think we'll take over LA," Niners star edge rusher Nick Bosa told reporters of the predicted "home" field advantage for Week 2.

Now, it's important to note that San Francisco isn't slighting Los Angeles by donning home red jerseys. The actual home team gets to choose what uniforms it'll wear, and then the visiting team has to adjust accordingly.
On that note, though, perhaps the Rams are admitting they're effectively a road team here and will conduct themselves accordingly, right?
The two NFC West rivals kick off on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 4:05 p.m. ET from... Levi's South.
