San Francisco 49ers fans are well-aware of the fact that star tight end George Kittle is set to enter the last year of his contract in 2025. With how many decisions the team has the make about other players (Brock Purdy for one), it's not surprising that a contract hasn't been agreed upon yet.
While appearing on Up & Adams during Super Bowl week, Kay Adams asked Kittle about the contract situation and what's going on there. His response was a little eye-opening, as he didn't have much to say about the situation.
"I have no idea, I just work here," Kittle said.
George Kittle didn't have much to say about his contract situation
Before Adams asked him this question, Kittle had been nothing but complementary of the 49ers organization. He talked about what it would mean to pass Terrell Owens in receiving yards and the history of the franchise so this didn't feel like Kittle was taking a shot at the front office or the organization.
No, it truly sounded as though Kittle didn't know what was going on with his contract. He mentioned there had been talks but that was about all he said on the matter.
The Niners' biggest question this offseason will be if they extend Purdy and how much they end up paying him. They had the luxury of having their starting quarterback on a rookie contract but couldn't truly benefit of it and now that window is closing.
Hopefully, the 49ers' Super Bowl window isn't closing with it.
Back to Kittle, there's no doubt that 49ers fans would love to see him in San Francisco for the entirety of his career, and he said himself in this interview that he'd love nothing more than to retire with the team that drafted him.
Hopefully a deal gets done but the front office has their work cut out for them this offseason, that's for sure.
