The San Francisco 49ers have had a rough offseason. Many have been critical of the team for their modest adds while getting rid of fan favorites.
Dallas Cowboys defensive star Micah Parsons decided to pile on with some comments on social media.
Parsons took to social media to poke fun at the Niners, writing in response to a post about them "gutting themselves" this offseason: "No more rookie qb lol welcome to reality!"
His point seems to be that because quarterback Brock Purdy is set to get a big payday this offseason, San Francisco is having to make unpopular moves like trading away wide receiver Deebo Samuel and releasing fullback Kyle Juszczyk.
This point is well taken, but at the same time, the smug and arrogant way he goes about making that point may be better made by someone who is in a different situation.
Micah Parsons might need to eat crow
First off, the 49ers have owned the Cowboys in recent years. Purdy has played the Cowboys twice, once in the playoffs of the 2022 season and once in the 2023 regular season. The Niners won on both occasions, blowing the Cowboys out in 2023. Purdy threw four touchdown passes in that game.
Second, Parsons should know a thing or two about a team paying a ton of money to a quarterback. The Cowboys gave Dak Prescott a massive contract ahead of the 2024 regular season only to go on to a disappointing 7-10 season.
The 49ers also struggled in 2024, going 6-11, but perhaps it would be a bit easier to take Parsons' comments more seriously if he played for a team that made it to an NFC Championship game in this millennium.
The Niners are going to have to make tough decisions now with a Purdy extension seeming likely. Some of these decisions may end up being healthy given the fact that the 49ers looked, old, slow, and bloated last season with an aging, overpaid core of players. If the team can get younger and more athletic perhaps that is what will be needed to get back on track.
Nonetheless, it is still rich to see Parsons casting stones from the glass house monstrosity that is "Jerry's World" in Dallas. He is undoubtedly a great player, but he would be wise to wait until the Cowboys avoid getting completely embarrassed in the playoffs before delighting in the supposed demise of the 49ers.
If he keeps throwing stones, I think tight end George Kittle has a t-shirt to sell him.
