The San Francisco 49ers seemingly cannot catch a break as it was revealed that their quarterback Brock Purdy sustained multiple injuries in Week 1. Now, the prognosis is that Purdy is going to miss two to five weeks with turf toe, per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

This is awful news for San Francisco especially after they had to place star tight end George Kittle on IR with a hamstring injury. It seems like the injury bug has come for San Francisco yet again and they are simply going to have to weather the storm until they get their players back.

For now, backup quarterback Mac Jones is going to step into the starting role to fill in for Purdy. We know that he has had success in the NFL in the past with the New England Patriots, but there is a reason he is a backup now as he had a steady decline after a solid rookie season.

The only other quarterback the 49ers currently have on the team other than Jones is former UFL star Adrian Martinez, who was signed after the team cut Tanner Mordecai and Carter Bradley.

John Lynch should probably add another quarterback into the mix, so here are three emergency moves they can make as they have to scramble with their franchise quarterback out for two to five weeks.

3 QB moves 49ers must consider after Brock Purdy's injury

Trade for Davis Mills

If the Niners are worried about Purdy missing the full five weeks of that injury timeline, it may not be the worst idea to trade for Houston Texans quarterback Davis Mills. The Stanford product was a starter with Houston for several years before C.J. Stroud arrived and he has put up respectable career numbers.

In 38 games he has 6,167 passing yards with 35 touchdown passes compared to 25 interceptions. Houston extended him through 2026 so he could be San Francisco's backup to Purdy next season while also being an option if Jones struggles or gets hurt in the next few weeks.

Sign Mike White

Mike White is a quarterback who is available in free agency. He started some games for the New York Jets in 2021 and 2022 and has served as a backup in Miami and Buffalo the last two seasons. He would at least bring more NFL experience to the table than Martinez.

A former fifth-round pick of the Cowboys, White has a propensity to catch lightning in a bottle whenever he gets on the field. The 49ers should see if he can rekindle some of that magic.

Bring back Nate Sudfeld

San Francisco brought back quarterback Nate Sudfeld for a tryout during the preseason but decided not to sign him. He had a stint with the Niners several years ago and Brock Purdy beat Sudfeld for the third string spot on the quarterback depth chart.

He understands the offense and would be a good insurance option behind Jones if he gets injured.

San Francisco has become far too familiar with quarterback injuries over the years so they need to be prepared for the worst. By signing one of these guys or swinging a trade for Mills or someone similar they would be guarding themselves against a worst-case scenario like they have faced in the past in the 2022 NFC Championship game.
