The 49ers carry a total of 11 picks into the 2023 NFL Draft, but none of them will be in the first two rounds, making for an interesting three-day event.

San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch’s scheduled actions in the 2023 NFL Draft might be a lot like California weather recently.

A lot of drought and inaction, followed by a whirlwind of activity, all to the tune of 11 selections this April.

That’s because the Niners don’t have picks in the first two rounds of this year’s draft. Their Round 1 selection was traded away back in 2021 as part of the package that helped acquire quarterback Trey Lance that year, while their second-round pick this year was used to trade for former Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey.

That said, San Francisco will pick up the activity awfully heavily in Round 3 and beyond.

The 49ers were already awarded three compensatory selections for the development and hiring away of minority coaches and assistants — Mike McDaniel to the Miami Dolphins, Martin Mayhew to the Washington Commanders, DeMeco Ryans to the Houston Texans and Ran Carthon to the Tennessee Titans.

Those picks will start off at No. 99 overall and go in relatively quick succession, as the Niners will own three picks out of four in a row.

Additionally, the league awarded San Francisco with an NFL-high seven compensatory selections for the 2023 draft, bringing Lynch’s total to the aforementioned 11 picks.

Barring a trade-up, the 49ers won’t be selecting until late in Round 3, and their first selection will be at No. 99 overall in the compensatory range.

The Niners won’t have a pick in Round 4 but have three in Round 5, one in Round 6 and then four in Round 7.

Here’s the full list:

  1. Round 3, Pick 99 (compensatory)
  2. Round 3, Pick 101 (compensatory)
  3. Round 3, Pick 102 (compensatory)
  4. Round 5, Pick 155 (from Dolphins)
  5. Round 5, Pick 164
  6. Round 5, Pick 173 (compensatory)
  7. Round 6, Pick 216 (compensatory)
  8. Round 7, Pick 222 (from Broncos)
  9. Round 7, Pick 247
  10. Round 7, Pick 253 (compensatory)
  11. Round 7, Pick 255 (compensatory)

The selection from Miami stemmed from last year’s trade of running back Jeff Wilson, while the pick from the Denver Broncos was part of a 2021 trade that saw linebacker Jonas Griffith dealt away from San Francisco.

The 2023 NFL Draft kicks off on Thursday, April 27.
