45. 8:20 p.m. ET. 42. NBC. Sunday, Sept. 25. 1-1. 1-1. 49ers -1.5

The 49ers face Russell Wilson and the Broncos in a prime-time Sunday Night Football showdown in Week 3, so let’s break down the details you need to know.

On one hand, the San Francisco 49ers are thrilled to have quarterback Russell Wilson out of the NFC West after a decade of him tormenting the Niners when he was a member of the Seattle Seahawks.

On the other, it’s only fitting San Francisco has to face off against Wilson again, this time as a member of the 1-1 Denver Broncos, who are hosting head coach Kyle Shanahan’s squad in Week 3 on Sunday Night Football.

The 49ers may have exorcised a demon by knocking off Seattle in Week 2, although it came at the expense of losing quarterback Trey Lance to a season-ending ankle injury. It ultimately means the Niners’ longtime starter, Jimmy Garoppolo, will have a chance to help his team exorcise another demon by knocking off Wilson under the bright lights of Sunday night.

With Wilson owning a 16-4 regular-season record against San Francisco, there’s no better time for Garoppolo, Shanahan and the rest of the 49ers to turn the tide against one particular player.

Let’s take a look at the matchup and what you’ll need to know.

49ers injury report vs. Broncos Week 3

Lance was designated to injured reserve earlier this week, and the Niners called up recently acquired running back Marlon Mack from the practice squad to the active roster in a corresponding move.

As for Week 3, San Francisco’s injury report is as follows:

  • DT Arik Armstead (foot): Questionable
  • OL Daniel Brunskill (hamstring): OUT
  • RB Tyrion Davis-Price (ankle): OUT
  • TE Tyler Kroft (knee): OUT
  • TE George Kittle (groin): Cleared
  • OL Colton McKivitz (ankle): Questionable

The Niners are a bit thin with regard to their offensive line depth, so that might be something to watch. Yet that news is offset by the likelihood Kittle returns from a two-game absence and makes his 2022 debut on Sunday night.

The last time he faced the Broncos was back in 2018 when he had seven catches for 210 yards and a touchdown.

49ers vs. Broncos odds, spread, over/under & betting pick for Sunday Night Football

Originally, San Francisco opened up as slight road underdogs for this contest, yet Vegas lines shifted as the week moved along.

Currently, according to the oddsmakers over at WynnBET, the Niners are 1.5-point road favorites, and their moneyline is -125. Denver’s, meanwhile, is at +105.

The over/under is 44.0.

Pound for pound, San Francisco boasts the better roster and has nowhere near the head-coaching or penalty gaffes the Broncos have had the last two weeks. And while Wilson has been a perennial thorn in the Niners’ side over the years, the fact Denver has managed a mere 16 points in each of its last two games against sub-par defenses (Seattle and the Houston Texans) bodes well for a San Francisco victory here.

Let’s predict a 28-17 win for the red and gold.
