No. 2: Sam Hubbard, EDGE, Ohio State

The 49ers could elect to trade down, especially with the news that the Buffalo Bills are looking to trade up into the top 10. One player that should be avoided is Sam Hubbard.

The 49ers have invested heavily as of late in the defensive line. First-round picks have been spent on Arik Armstead, DeForest Buckner and Solomon Thomas, yet the idea is they still could add someone either via draft or free agency, who has a talent for getting to the quarterback.

It’s not the worst idea, you can never have too many defenders terrorizing the quarterback.

Unfortunately, Hubbard has never lived up to his physical talents at college level, some of that may have to do with a lack of explosiveness as cited by this article, which has him going on day two.

Hubbard can still be a good player at the pro level, but considering the inconsistencies of the 49er defensive line at present, it hardly seems logical to add an inconsistent defensive lineman to the mix.
