Do I have to have any previous writing experience?

Not at all. While it helps to have sports-writing experience or a journalism background, it’s not a requirement. Many of our writers started off with no experience at all, only to hone their craft and develop into fine sports bloggers.

How many articles am I expected to write?

Writers are typically given weekly assignments — roughly two per week — although these largely depend on availability.

We encourage writers to contribute as much as they can, although we also know real life takes priority.

How long until I get a paid position?

Entry-level contributors don’t receive compensation for their work. And there isn’t any set timetable for earning a paid gig.

Some who have worked their tail off go on to receive paid contributor positions elsewhere, including internal positions at FanSided. Others have been picked up by other sports-media outlets in a paid capacity.

It’s all about creating a brand and taking advantage of the opportunity.

I already write for another outlet. Will this prevent me from writing for Niner Noise?

Not at all, at least on our end.

FanSided does have a strict policy against duplicating content — copying and pasting your work to/from Niner Noise with another media site. All work posted on Niner Noise has to be unique, but this doesn’t prevent you from writing your own content elsewhere.

What’s in it for me?
