Everyone knows it has been a long time since the San Francisco 49ers have won the Super Bowl, but a striking new stat about just how long it’s been will really blow your mind.
Josh Dubow of the Associated Press shared the following on social media:
“It has been 11,391 days since the 49ers last won a Super Bowl on Jan. 29, 1995. That's the same amount of time between that Super Bowl win and the JFK assassination.”

Wow.
For those who weren’t alive when the Niners won their last Super Bowl, the JFK assassination feels like an eternity ago. Even for those who lived through that dark day and saw all of the 49ers’ Super Bowl wins it feels like a really, really long time ago.
But it has been over 31 years now since the Niners have been Super Bowl champions. It’s remarkable because they are still considered the gold standard when it comes to NFL franchises, and San Francisco has been so agonizingly close to winning on three separate occasions in the past 15 years or so, but it just has not happened.
Obviously, teams that have never won a Super Bowl or have had an even longer drought will roll their eyes at this “drought” the Niners are experiencing.
But for die-hard 49ers fans, that long gap between Lombardi Trophies hurts.
There have been some dark times since then, like the Mike Singletary years or the two-year disaster with Jim Tomsula followed by Chip Kelly. There were times where it was fair to wonder whether the Niners would ever win another title or even be good again.
Yet, general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan have been able to restore the team to respectability. They haven’t quite gotten over the hump and won one yet, but they have done everything except win a Super Bowl, which they deserve a lot of credit for.
They still have a chance to end the drought, though. It won’t be easy as the NFC West is stacked and their core players aren’t getting any younger, but the window is still as open.
Let’s hope it doesn’t take another three decades for the Niners to win one, but the JFK connection truly does put things in perspective as to just how long it has been since the Niners were atop the NFL.
