Not all is well in "Jerry World" as the Dallas Cowboys and their star edge rusher Micah Parsons are experiencing a rift.
San Francisco 49ers fans, meanwhile, can sit back and eat some popcorn as they watch the situation in Dallas deteriorate.
Parsons is seeking a new contract from the Cowboys, but reports suggest he may request a trade or take more drastic measures if things remain far apart. Apparently, Parsons believed he had a deal in place with owner and general manager Jerry Jones based on conversations they had earlier this year.
But it appears Jones had a different understanding of things.
Contract standoffs like this are commonplace at this time of year, and there is obviously a lot of posturing and empty threats from both team and player over what they are willing to do if a deal is not reached.
Parsons has been one of the best pass-rushers in the NFL since his rookie season in 2021. He has 52.5 career sacks in four seasons and received first-team All-Pro honors in both of his first two seasons in the league.
There is an alternate universe in which the Niners selected Parsons instead of quarterback Trey Lance in the 2021 NFL Draft, and it is hard not to dream about what a combination of Parsons and Bosa could have done together.
Instead, Parsons plays for San Francisco's oldest rival, and he has not been shy about leaning into that rivalry. He took aim at the Niners for their offseason strategy while having to pay quarterback Brock Purdy, which was a bold move considering Dallas is coming off a disappointing year and does not seem like a juggernaut in 2025.
Bosa has leaned into the rivalry as well with a not-so-subtle social media post he shared on July 4, taking a jab at "America's Team." Of course, tight end George Kittle has had his creative t-shirt fun with the rivalry over the years as well.
We will see how all of this drama with Parsons shakes out. Jones is not afraid to take his time with negotiations. Last season, the Cowboys did not work out a deal with wide receiver Cee Dee Lamb until late August.
The two sides will probably reach some sort of agreement at some point, but for now, it's fun for 49ers fans to point at a hated rival dealing with contract drama far worse than their own.
It is doubtful that the situation would reach a point where the Cowboys would actually trade Parsons, but if it did, it would be great to see such a great player depart the Cowboys and would give Niners fans plenty to laugh about.
