San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall has an injury history befitting an NFL veteran even though he’s entering his third season in the league. The latest news on his nagging PCL injury is not good and will likely lead to speculation the Niners could sign Deebo Samuel.
According to a number of San Francisco's beat writers, there’s concern Pearsall hasn’t fully healed from the PCL injury that affected him for most of last season. He is dealing with knee swelling and is not practicing, which is already an ominous sign.
It is an absolute shame because we've seen the type of receiver Pearsall can be when he is healthy. Early last season, it looked like he was gong to break out before the knee issue derailed things.
The Niners already have a lot of wide receivers on the roster, but Pearsall and Christian Kirk are already dealing with injuries.

Deebo has been active on social media recently, posting videos of him running routes and catching passes to show teams out there that he’s in shape and ready to play. That is certainly better than the recent social media activity of another soon-to-be-former 49ers receiver.
A lot of Niners fans have mused about a reunion, but it has seemed like a long shot for several reasons. Samuel was reportedly hurt that San Francisco signed Mike Evans, which seems bizarre since Deebo previously requested a trade out of San Francisco.
Plus, on paper, it didn’t seem like there was enough room for Deebo entering training camp. The Niners already have so many guys in the mix at wide receiver as it is that it was more conceivable to view him as a returner or running back rather than strictly a wide receiver.
Yet, he left the Niners on good terms, and there’s clearly still a lot of love between him and 49ers players and coaches. Maybe he could be a decent No. 2 or No. 3 option, especially if Pearsall requires surgery or is going to miss a good chunk of time.
It probably isn’t the likeliest scenario, but it’s more of a possibility than it was prior to the Pearsall news. It seems like this could be another season of rampant 49ers injuries, so they may as well load up on quality depth now while they still can.
