The San Francisco 49ers had one of the best wide receiver groups last season and it appears that group has only gotten stronger after the team selected wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with the 31st pick in the first round of the NFL Draft.

The pick came as a bit of a surprise for Niners fans. Wide receiver was not seen as a massive area of need for the team, even with constant trade rumors surrounding Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel. Most expected San Francisco to select an offensive lineman, but some of the best linemen were already off the board.

Pearsall had solid stats in his collegiate career in which he played at both Arizona State and the University of Florida. He had 2,240 receiving yards in his career and 14 total touchdown catches.

Tom Jensen at All 49ers wrote about how Pearsall is a great route runner and is an excellent pass catcher with a very low drop rate.

Those are both skills that head coach Kyle Shanahan prizes.

If the 49ers keep all of their current wide receivers and no one gets, the addition of Pearsall makes the team's wide receiver group arguably the deepest in the NFL.

They would have Deebo who is one of the most physical and versatile offensive players in the league. They would have Aiyuk who is also an exceptional route runner and is great at getting yards after the catch. They have Jauan Jennings who is their go-to man on third down and is one of their primary blockers. Then they have Ronnie Bell who showed some promise last season as well as Chris Conley who is a solid veteran who made key plays last year, especially in the postseason.

Adding Pearsall into this mix makes that wide receiver room very deep. Even if Deebo gets hurt like he did last season, they can feel good knowing that they have guys who are capable of stepping up and playing well.

We will have to see what the wide receiver group will look like by the start of the regular season, but as things currently stand the Niners have a very deep and formidable group of wide receivers.
