2. Steve Young (1991 to 1999)

No. 2 on this list is also quite obvious. It's the man that was sitting behind Montana for a number of years, Steve Young.

Young had a tough act to follow, replacing a future Hall of Fame quarterback with four Super Bowl victories under his belt. Had social media been around back in the early 1990s, there may have been more documented blowback from him taking over.

He did a pretty darn good job, though.

Young would end up winning the MVP award twice, for his performances in the 1992 and 1994 NFL seasons. In 1994 he would finally get the "monkey off his back" and win his first Super Bowl as a starter, winning the Super Bowl MVP award in the process.

Although Young's career was cut shorter than it might've gone due to injuries, he still ends up as No. 2 in the pantheon of 49ers quarterbacks due to his individual success and his ability to win the Lombardi Trophy.
