Predicting what games 49ers wear their classic throwback uniforms

The 49ers haven't officially announced when they'll don their 1994 throwback uniforms for 2023. So, let's take a guess at when.

In case you hadn't noticed, throwback uniforms have become quite the rage across the NFL landscape entering the 2023 season.

The San Francisco 49ers already got ahead of this trend by going back to their classic 1994 throwback uniforms, which started off with the all-white uniforms in 2018 and then eventually included the red tops with white pants for home games. In fact, those throwbacks are so awesome looking, there is a movement to make the 1994 throwbacks the Niners' permanent uniform going forward.

Considering 1994 was the last season in which the red and gold won a Super Bowl, it might not be a bad idea.

Perhaps we missed it, but San Francisco hasn't announced when it'll don the throwbacks for the upcoming 2023 season. If we did miss it, fine. But CBS Sports doesn't know either, and they have many more resources to find out than we do.

Speaking of CBS Sports, they had a precise description of the 49ers' 1994 throwbacks, "Perfection. Perfection. Perfection."

Agree.

Now, teams can wear alternate uniforms three times during the regular season. Since we don't know when the Niners will do this, all we can do is look at their upcoming 2023 schedule and make some predictions.

Here are the three games we think will feature our favorite San Francisco throwbacks.

49ers throwback uniform game No. 3: Week 18 vs. Rams

Rivalry games always make for perfect opportunities to wear special uniforms. And even though the Los Angeles Rams have fallen on hard times after winning a Super Bowl two seasons ago, there'll be no love lost when these two NFC West squads face each other in the final regular-season game of the year on Jan. 7 (or Jan. 6, if it's flexed from Sunday to Saturday).

We've already seen what the 1994 throwbacks look like against LA at Levi's Stadium, as the 49ers wore these when they hosted Los Angeles a year ago.

In contrast to the Rams' own new-look uniforms, the Niners' alternate jerseys stand out for all the right reasons.

Plus, if this game gets flexed to Saturday night, it'll be in front of a national audience.
