Nick Bosa makes top 4 of Pete Prisco's top-100 list for 2023

CBS Sports' Pete Prisco dished out his own top-100 players list for 2023, and Nick Bosa ended up at No. 4.

The San Francisco 49ers have the best defensive player in the NFL right now, edge Nick Bosa, who just took home Defensive Player of the Year honors after leading the league in sacks last season with 18.5.

Now, Pro Football Focus might disagree with the idea that Bosa is the best defender going in football, and he wasn't even ranked as the best edge defender, at least according to PFF's latest rankings.

However, as much folly as that is, at least the beloved Pete Prisco over at CBS Sports got things back on the right track.

While the NFL Top 100 list is a big showing, Prisco came out with his own top-100 list heading into the 2023 season.

And, wouldn't you know it? Bosa ranked not only No. 4 overall, but he was ranked the best defensive player, period.

CBS Sports' Pete Prisco: 49ers EDGE Nick Bosa is best defensive player in NFL

Bosa being ranked the best defensive player in the league entering 2023 is just part of the story. The three names ahead of him are all quarterbacks, and you can probably guess who they are and in what order.

If you can't, here you go:

  1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
  2. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills
  3. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

So, Bosa isn't just the best defensive player.

"The Defensive Player of the Year is coming off a season with 18.5 sacks, showing his dominance on one of the league's best defenses," Prisco wrote.

Trailing Bosa is another elite edge defender, the Cleveland Browns' Myles Garrett.

Where did other 49ers players rank on Pete Prisco's Top 100?

The Niners are a good team, so it shouldn't be surprising to see a few other players from the red and gold on this list.

Left tackle Trent Williams, who some say is the best pound-for-pound player in the NFL right now, made it to No. 10. Running back Christian McCaffrey was 27th, and tight end George Kittle was 32nd.

Linebacker Fred Warner was No. 37, and wide receiver Deebo Samuel was 57th.

Why Prisco didn't list San Francisco's elite long-snapper, Taybor Pepper, within the top 100 is anyone's guess.
