The 49ers should have some deja vu when it comes to facing off against an old rival on Thanksgiving.
Let's face it, San Francisco 49ers fans probably have some sour memories about the last time their team played on Thanksgiving, particularly the night game for Thursday Night Football.
It was back in 2014, of course. And it was at home at a brand-new Levi's Stadium against their hated NFC West rivals, the Seattle Seahawks, who came in behind quarterback Russell Wilson and cornerback Richard Sherman, fully embarrassing the Niners by a score of 19-3.
If that wasn't bad enough, Sherman and Wilson partook in a Thanksgiving feast right on San Francisco's logo on the 50-yard line at the conclusion of the game.
Yeah, fans probably haven't forgotten that moment (although 49ers fans probably forgave Sherman after he jumped ship and joined the Niners in 2018).
Nine years later, it's time for a turkey-day rematch, of sorts, as San Francisco will square off against Seattle again on Thanksgiving as part of the three-game tradition.
This time, though, the 49ers will travel north to Lumen Field with the hopes of eating turkey in front of the 12s.
Full schedule of Thanksgiving games, including 49ers at Seahawks
The Niners and Hawks will round out the three-game set of Thanksgiving games, which will take place on Thursday, Nov. 23.
Here is the full schedule of Thanksgiving Day games to be played on the 2023 NFL schedule:
- Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions -- 12:30 p.m. ET
- Washington Commanders @ Dallas Cowboys -- 4:30 p.m. ET
- San Francisco 49ers @ Seattle Seahawks -- 8:15 p.m. ET (Thursday Night Football)
The Lions and Cowboys historically host Thanksgiving Day games. In previous years, it was typically an easy win for the road team in Detroit, but the 2023 Lions are shaping up to be a legitimate playoff contender within an otherwise weak NFC and versus a post-Aaron Rodgers Packers team with him leaving for the New York Jets this offseason.
Dallas against Washington should be a solid NFC East matchup to watch, but San Francisco fans will be eagerly awaiting the result of their team's primetime bout against a Seattle team that could potentially threaten the 49ers within the NFC West.
