Jauan Jennings needed just 2 drives vs. Rams to prove he's on fire
By Peter Panacy
With no Deebo Samuel or George Kittle, Jauan Jennings answered the call early for the 49ers in Week 3 versus the Rams.
The San Francisco 49ers had to cringe at their Week 3 injury report against the Los Angeles Rams, one that meant two of the offense's All-Pros, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and tight end George Kittle, would miss the game.
Most probably would have predicted the Niners would rely heavily on running back Jordan Mason, who has admirably filled in for another injured All-Pro, Christian McCaffrey, who is on injured reserve.
While Mason had a few moments early in LA, it's been another weapon primarily responsible for San Francisco's quick 14-0 lead at SoFI Stadium.
Wide receiver Jauan Jennings.

The 49ers needed help for quarterback Brock Purdy, and Jennings has thus far answered the call on both of their first two possessions.
The big-body slot receiver capped off an eight-play, 70-yard drive with the game's opening touchdown, finding himself wide open while most of Los Angeles' red-zone defense was focusing on fellow wideout Brandon Aiyuk:
Despite a penalty-riddled second Niners possession, Purdy again found Jennings on a touchdown grab that showcased the receiver's physicality and pass-catching skills:
Credit to Purdy's scrambling ability, too, as he was able to evade pressure to find Jennings in the end zone.
With one quarter of action in the books, and San Francisco having wrapped up two offensive possessions, Jennings already has 51 yards on three receptions and the two scores.
It's probably safe to assume the Rams will begin focusing more attention on the receiver over the rest of the game, but he's been the one who has almost entirely put the banged-up 49ers offense on his shoulders.
And there's plenty of time left to inflate his stats.
