The banged-up 49ers visit the banged-up Rams in Week 3, and the Niners' injury report is one fans hope won't repeat anytime soon.

The San Francisco 49ers have to be desperately hoping 2024 doesn't turn out to be a lot like 2020.

Both years followed Niners Super Bowl losses. The former involved a near-unprecedented rash of injuries across the roster.

The latter is shaping up to be awfully similar.

San Francisco already knew it'd be without All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel (calf) for a couple of weeks, at least, while All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey (calf, Achilles) is already shelved on injured reserve.

However, leading up to their Week 3 NFC West showdown against the Los Angeles Rams, the 49ers received even more bad news regarding the injury front, this time involving All-Pro tight end George Kittle.

George Kittle headlines 49ers' growing injury report in Week 3 vs. Rams

Kittle didn't practice on Thursday or Friday, and his status for Sunday's contest at SoFI Stadium is listed as doubtful on the Niners' official Week 3 injury report:

  • TE George Kittle (hamstring): Doubtful
  • WR Deebo Samuel (calf): OUT
  • CB Charvarius Ward (hamstring, knee): Questionable
  • DE Nick Bosa (rib): Questionable

Ward and Bosa were able to particpate in practice on Friday, while San Francisco also plans on having All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga back in action after missing the first two weeks of the season following last year's ACL tear.

As bad as things are for San Francisco, Los Angeles is arguably in far worse shape, poised to be without its top two wide receivers, Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, while dealing with a banged-up offensive line and shortages within the secondary.

So, at least the 49ers have some sympathy on that front when they kick off against LA on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
