4 free agents 49ers can sign to relieve pressure from growing injuries
3. WR Richie James
Yet another former 49er, wide receiver Richie James would make sense as a potential depth piece. James played for the 49ers from 2018 to 2020 and was never a huge threat as a wide receiver, but he was a solid returner for the team in those years.
James was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs last year and was part of the team that beat San Francisco in the Super Bowl.
If the Niners can let bygones be bygones, James would be a solid addition.
With rookies like Guerendo and wide receiver Jacob Cowing looking shaky so far and the special teams unit being atrocious as a whole, adding a veteran returner like James would do a lot to shore up a key San Francisco weakness.
James is not legendary return specialist Devin Hester by any means, but he has experience and should be more reliable than the current rookies on the team.
