The 49ers agreed to have practices with the Raiders in advance of their preseason game this year, and the dates are now live.

Right when the 2023 NFL schedule was officially released, we knew the San Francisco 49ers were going to square off against their former Bay Area rival, the Las Vegas Raiders, in a preseason tilt.

OK, exhibition games don't count for anything (try telling that to a fringe player on the roster bubble), but at least inter-team football is back by that point.

And that helps by giving both teams on the opposite side of the line of scrimmage different looks and the chance to compete against someone else other than the players who are going up against each other in practice week after week.

However, for the Niners and Raiders, their players will have the opportunity to practice against each other for a couple of games before both teams kick off their 2023 preseason campaign.

49ers will practice vs. Raiders prior to Week 1 of preseason

Both head coach Kyle Shanahan of San Francisco and head coach Josh McDaniels of Las Vegas agreed to have joing practices between their respective teams prior to the first week of preseason football.

The two teams will face off on Sunday, Aug. 13 at 4 p.m. ET from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

When will the 49ers and Raiders practices be?

According to NBC Sports Bay Area's Matt Maiocco, the joint practices between the Raiders and 49ers will be on Thursday, Aug. 10, and Friday, Aug. 11.

A potentially huge storyline from the practices (and possibly the preseason game, too) will be whether or not former Niners quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be suiting up for his new team, the Raiders, for both practices and the exhibition bout.

Garoppolo had offseason foot surgery and could potentially miss training camp, Daniels told reporters last week.

Either way, assuming Garoppolo will at least be present at the facility, there'll likely be some reunions between some old friends and teammates.
