The 49ers will have their standard set of three preseason games on the 2023 NFL schedule, all three of those games coming against teams from the AFC West.

Admit it, fans are always excited to welcome football back after a long offseason, and it's very typically to get excited about the first preseason game of any given year.

And it'll stay exciting for about the first 10 minutes because football is back.

Of course, things settle down and the meaningless exhibition bout turns less into a competition to win and more about exploring the deeper parts of each team's roster, and the remaining 50 minutes are so wind up being dedicated to players who are striving to just make the cut, many of whom will see their NFL dreams come to a crashing halt before the regular season.

Now that we got that depressing bit out of the way, we can focus on business.

The San Francisco 49ers schedule for 2023 has been known for a few days now, and the Niners will have their normal two-apiece games against NFC West teams, combined with divisional showdowns against both the NFC East and AFC North. Additionally, there'll be three "at large" games stemming from a first-place schedule.

San Francisco also has the maximum of five primetime games, too.

However, those three exhibition bouts prior to Week 1 of the regular season do matter for something, and the die-hard fans know which storylines to watch and what players are desperately trying to carve out roles on the team.

For those of you who fall into this category, here is the 49ers' 2023 preseason schedule.

Note: Neither the Niners nor the NFL have officially released the 2023 preseason schedule, just the games and opponents for all 32 teams. However, Pro Football Reference does have some times and dates available, but this could be subject to change and/or revision.

San Francisco won't partake in the annual Hall of Fame game this year, so there won't be a preseason "Week 0" for head coach Kyle Shanahan and Co.

Instead, the 49ers kick off their three-game exhibition period on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders in what should be a slightly entertaining reunion with their former quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, who left for the silver and black in free agency this offseason.

  • Preseason Week 1: 49ers @ Raiders -- Sunday, Aug. 13 at 4 p.m. ET
  • Preseason Week 2: Broncos @ 49ers -- Saturday, Aug. 19 at 8:30 p.m. ET
  • Preseason Week 3: Chargers @ 49ers -- Friday, Aug. 25 at 10 p.m. ET

It's an AFC West showdown (at least three-fourths of it) for the Niners in the preseason.

Again, though, times and dates are subject to change and revision. So, don't go booking your hotels and flight reservations for preseason action just yet.
