Brock Purdy paid the ultimate compliment to Vikings defensive coordinator

It appears as if Brock Purdy was wowed by what the Vikings defense threw at him in Week 2.

Final. 23. 60. 49ers-Vikings final. 17. 42

Brock Purdy and the 49ers couldn't get things going against the Vikings on Sunday, and the quarterback even admitted as much to Minnesota's defensive coordinator.

Quarterback Brock Purdy wasn't the prime reason why the San Francisco 49ers lost their Week 2 road game against the still-undefeated Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

But Purdy wasn't exactly a solution in a game where the Niners committed far too many gaffes on offense, defense and special teams.

From a purely statistical standpoint, Purdy was OK: 28-of-36 passing for 319 yards, a touchdown against one interception, a 101.3 passer rating while taking six sacks. Yet San Francisco's offense went 2-of-10 on third downs and 1-of-3 on fourth-down attempts.

Purdy found himself under regular pressure, thanks to frequent five-man blitzes from Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who seemed to dial up all the right pressures and coverages when facing key situations.

Paired with the 49ers' other mistakes, Purdy and Co. never took a lead at any point in the game.

Brock Purdy to Brian Flores: 'Your scheme is crazy'

Postgame greetings and handshakes are quick and rarely offer elongated conversations.

But they can be a goldmine for content and quick quotes.

This is precisely what Purdy offered Flores immediately after saying hello to his former teammate and the quarterback who won on Sunday, now-Minnesota signal-caller Sam Darnold.

Quickly turning to Flores, Purdy said, "Your scheme is crazy."

After the game, Purdy admitted to reporters that opponents like the Vikings aren't simply going to roll over despite the Niners' plethora of offensive talent.

"Just because you've got really good players and a good scheme doesn't mean the other team's going to give it to you," the quarterback pointed out. "You have to go out and earn it."

Flores and the Vikings earned it. Purdy and San Francisco's offense didn't.

Crazy.
