49ers stars past and present shine in commercial with Matthew McConaughey

This commercial was heavy on 49ers.

And hilarious.

If you are a fan of San Francisco 49ers players being in commercials, you have been in luck lately. Chances are you have seen star players like quarterback Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle, and running back Christian McCaffrey on your screen at some point recently.

Unfortunately, that is about the only way you can see McCaffrey on your TV these days, given the troubling injuries he is dealing with that have prevented him from playing up to this point in the season. It seems likely that he will be out for at least half the year in a best-case scenario.

Nonetheless, McCaffrey is still making some good money with all of the commercials he has been featured in.

He has been a part of several ads for Uber Eats, the latest of which may be his finest.

This new spot features the actor Matthew McConaughey who is certainly no stranger to the commercial space.

If you have not seen the commercial yet, you can watch it below:

If you cannot access the post, basically McConaughey explains to McCaffrey that football is just one big ruse to sell people food. He cites various plays or moves in football like a "pancake block" and also brings up player names like Jabrill Peppers. To really hammer home his point, when Hall of Fame 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice sits next to him on the couch, he sarcastically asks him what he is eating, to which Jerry replies, "rice."

It is a pretty funny ad and, of course, leans into the irony of being an advertisement for food. When compared to some of the other McConaughey ad campaigns, this one is actually pretty sane and normal. His work for Lincoln and Salesforce in particular seems less like a real ad campaign and more like it may have been imagined during a bad Aaron Rodgers ayahuasca trip.

Nonetheless, it is still fun to see two Niners greats, one past and one present, featured in a big ad like that. It is a great reminder that the 49er brand is alive and well.

Let's just hope that we start seeing McCaffrey during games and not just commercial breaks sooner rather than later.
