Yes, they absolutely should.

Davante Adams seemingly wants out from the Raiders, while Brandon Aiyuk requested a trade. And there's a new rumor surrounding the two.

Neither Davante Adams of the Las Vegas Raiders nor Brandon Aiyuk of the San Francisco 49ers are happy with their current situations.

The two star wide receivers are at very different stages of their career, the 31-year-old Adams heading into his twilight seasons, whereas Aiyuk is seeking his first non-rookie contract as he prepares to play on his fifth-year option.

Adams is rumored to want out from Vegas, even though there have been additional reports that negate these suggestions.

Meanwhile, amid his own extension talks stalling, Aiyuk just requested a trade from the Niners.

So, would a deal between San Francisco and Las Vegas involving both players be plausible?

According to one recent rumor, it's on the table:

Could such a thing happen? Should such a thing happen?

From the 49ers' perspective, it'd be a smart move for a team aiming for nothing short of a Super Bowl win right now.

Why trading Brandon Aiyuk for Davante Adams makes sense for the 49ers

Despite being on the wrong side of 30 years old, Adams is a better overall receiver than Aiyuk despite the latter being on the ascent. And the five-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro would relish being on an offense that would best utilize his talents instead of wasting away on a rebuilding Raiders squad that won't be in contention for at least a few more years.

Aiyuk, meanwhile, wants a hefty contract worth at least $30 million per year. It doesn't appear as if the Niners want to pay that.

San Francisco would have to pay Adams $17.5 million in a post-trade deal, according to Over the Cap. And while the superstar receiver is due up to $44 million in each of the following two years in 2025 and 2026, there's no guaranteed money.

The 49ers could theoretically release Adams or restructure his deal after this season, although that would put more pressure on their first-round NFL Draft pick from last April, wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, to make a serious impact within a year or two.

Vegas, meanwhile, would have more than enough cap space to give Aiyuk the deal he wants.

And the Niners would upgrade at the position for their 2024 campaign, increasing their Super Bowl chances.
