3 packages that would convince 49ers to trade Brandon Aiyuk
By Ryan Heckman
It has been a few months of drama for San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.
Dating back to the 2024 NFL Draft, there were whispers that the team was thinking about shopping Aiyuk for a top-10 pick. Then, they went and drafted wide receiver Ricky Pearsall in the first round.
Fast forward, and contract negotiations have yet to equate to a deal getting done. Aiyuk still doesn't have his extension, meanwhile plenty of his peers have gotten paid this offseason -- and handsomely, at that.
For everything we've heard and read in regards to a trade not happening, the star wideout has finally and officially made his desire known: he wants out.
Now, will the 49ers actually grant Aiyuk's request? And, which teams would be interested in his services? The odds are, the Niners won't trade Aiyuk. He knows he's in a great situation if he wants to win, and both sides should eventually come to an agreement.
But, every player has a price. So, what would San Francisco need in order to entertain a trade going down?
In short, it would be steep.
These trade packages would force the 49ers' hand in trading Brandon Aiyuk
Plenty of teams should be calling about Aiyuk, but these three make a ton of sense, and the trade return might be too rich to pass up.
1. The Buffalo Bills
Of course the team that trades wide receiver Stefon Diggs is in the conversation. The Bills added pass catchers Keon Coleman through the draft, along with veterans like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Mack Hollins and most notably, Curtis Samuel, but none of them would compare to the level of impact that Aiyuk would bring.
Think back to when Diggs was traded to Buffalo, and the Bills gave up a first, fourth, fifth and sixth rounder to acquire him. This package is very similar, and Aiyuk is on a similar ascension. It's a significant cost, but the 49ers just might entertain it.
2. The Washington Commanders
Obviously, we've seen a whole lot of rumors regarding Aiyuk going to Washington. So, why wouldn't they be in the conversation?
This deal doesn't involve as many picks as the previous one, but the kicker is that Washington's first rounder next year should be fairly high, assuming quarterback Jayden Daniels doesn't set the world on fire in his rookie campaign.
3. The Los Angeles Chargers
If head coach Jim Harbaugh wanted to accelerate what's happening in Los Angeles and get quarterback Justin Herbert a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver after watching receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams exit this offseason, then Aiyuk could be the perfect addition.
This one is a bit of a gamble on the 49ers' part. What we saw out of wide receiver Quentin Johnston, as a rookie, wasn't exactly promising. But, he was a first-round pick just last year, and if anyone could get the most out of him, I would bet my money on Kyle Shanahan.
