Brandon Aiyuk managed to play through a shoulder injury in the 49ers' Week 2 win over the Rams, but will he be good enough to go for Thursday Night Football in a few days?

At the current moment, neither wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk nor the San Francisco 49ers are happy that Thursday Night Football is a thing.

But it is, and it's not going away anytime soon.

Aiyuk, one of the Niners' heroes from the Week 2 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, was dealing with a shoulder injury for much of the game, one that actually forced him to sit out a few plays with what looked to be much more serious a setback early on.

Clearly playing through pain, Aiyuk gutted it out and finished the game with three catches for 43 yards, and he could have had more if quarterback Brock Purdy hadn't committed some unfortunate overthrows.

After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that the injury wasn't believed to be serious:

"I know he was hurting a little bit, but he was able to play through it," Shanahan said. "So I think I'll be all right."

But will Aiyuk be OK in time for San Francisco's next game?

49ers play on Thursday Night Football vs. Giants, will Brandon Aiyuk be available?

The 49ers are on a short week now, as they gear up for their 2023 home opener at Levi's Stadium against the New York Giants.

And it happens to be the Week 3 installment of Thursday Night Football.

Shanahan didn't mention any further testing or evaluation for Aiyuk, and his comments about the receiver being able to play through it on Sunday were encouraging.

That said, the postgame pain could always endanger Aiyuks ability to get out on the field and contribute well enough on such a short week with only a handful of days to get his body right.

Needless to say, Aiyuk's name will be one to watch on the Niners' practice and injury reports over the next few days before San Francisco hosts Big Blue on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 8:20 p.m. ET.
