The 49ers are shorthanded for their Week 3 road contest against the Rams, and some notable names won't suit up today at SoFI Stadium.

Quarterback Brock Purdy and the rest of the San Francisco 49ers are already getting tested to the max early in the young season.

Injuries have hit the Niners hard, particularly on that side of the ball with All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey shelved on injured reserve with calf and Achilles injuries. And now, wide receiver Deebo Samuel is missing time because of a calf injury, while tight end George Kittle dealt with a hamstring issue in the days leading up to San Francisco's Week 3 road contest against the Los Angeles Rams.

Both Kittle and Samuel were ruled out of Sunday's bout.

With two of his top weapons out, Purdy will rely heavily on running back Jordan Mason, who has at least reached 100 yards rushing over the first two weeks of the season. Additionally, pressure has mounted on fellow wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to produce, particularly after not doing so much in the wake of the offseason's contract drama.

If there's any solace, though, LA is just as banged up (if not more so) than the 49ers entering the game.

49ers inactive list for Week 3 vs. Rams

Kittle and Samuel were both ruled out for the contest, while safety Talanoa Hufanga (knee) and defensive end Nick Bosa (rib) were questionable.

  • TE George Kittle
  • WR Deebo Samuel
  • OL Ben Bartch
  • CB Darrell Luter Jr.
  • LB Tatum Bethune
  • QB Josh Dobbs (emergency QB)

Meanwhile, cornerback Charvarius Ward will suit up despite being listed as questionable for the game.

San Francisco elevated tight end Brayden Willis and defensive end Sam Okuayinonu from the practice squad to help mitigate the injuries.

The 49ers and Rams kick off on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 4:25 p.m. ET from SoFI Stadium.
