49ers inactives for Monday Night Football game vs. Jets

It's not exactly an ideal time for one of the Niners' top offensive stars to be hurt.

Which 49ers players won't be dressing for the 2024 regular-season opener in prime time against the visiting Jets?

The San Francisco 49ers open up their 2024 regular-season campaign tonight at home against quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the visiting New York Jets, a primetime showdown on Monday Night Football that'll put a cap on Week 1's action.

Injuries are already a theme for this showdown. It's the first meaningful action Rodgers has seen since suffering a torn Achilles a year ago in Week 1 when he was taken down by then-Buffalo Bills pass-rusher Leonard Floyd, who now plays for the Niners, interestingly enough.

Additionally, a number of San Francisco's own stars are dealing with injuries, including All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey, who was working through a calf issue late in training camp and throughout the preseason.

McCaffrey was listed as questionable on the 49ers' Week 1 injury report, and subsequent reports just before inactives went live said he'd end up missing the game after all.

Left guard Aaron Banks, who had surgery on his finger during camp, is also listed as questionable, while All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga's recovery from a torn ACL last year might have resulted in him being cleared for the active roster, but he's listed as doubtful. That suggestion likely points to him missing Monday night's contest.

Linebacker Dee Winters (ankle) and defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) have both been ruled out.

In McCaffrey's stead, the Niners will rely heavily on third-year pro Jordan Mason, who had a solid preseason campaign but doesn't quite come anywhere close to matching McCaffrey's level of impact.

Needless to say, the 49ers offense will be forced to adjust in a major way.

San Francisco and New York kick off Monday Night Football on Sept. 9 at 8:20 p.m. from Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
