The 49ers are going to be without two of their defensive starters against the Cardinals, who like to run the ball a lot.

For much of the season, the San Francisco 49ers' weekly injury reports have been relatively light, especially in terms of lengthy injuries to key players.

However, notably toward the end of the regular season, the Niners have been dealing with considerably more injuries than usual, which shouldn't be too big a surprise when thinking about the number of games played to date.

San Francisco is set to square off in Week 15 against its NFC West rivals, the 3-10 Arizona Cardinals, who could end up giving the 49ers a trap-game scenario if head coach Kyle Shanahan's squad plays down to the level of its opponent.

Or winds up being overcome by Arizona's desire to run the ball frequently and with success, which plays right into the Niners' injury and inactive lists for Sunday's contest.

The Cardinals are averaging 4.7 yards per rush, third best in the NFL entering Week 15.

Both offense and defense are "feeling it," in terms of dealing with injury rashes. But San Francisco will be without two defensive starters, defensive tackles Arik Armstead (ankle, knee) and Javon Hargrave (hamstring), for the game.

Additionally, linebacker Oren Burks (knee) won't be able to play and is among those who are inactive against Arizona:

  • QB Brandon Allen
  • RB Elijah Mitchell
  • LB Oren Burks
  • TE Ross Dwelley
  • OL Spencer Burford
  • DT Arik Armstead
  • DT Javon Hargrave

Armstead is missing a second game in a row, while Hargrave is expected to miss this week only.

On the positive side, linebacker Dre Greenlaw (hip) and cornerback Charvarius Ward (groin) are going to play despite being listed as questionable on the injury report heading into the weekend.

The Niners and Cardinals kick off their game on Dec. 17 at 4:05 p.m. ET from State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
