49ers continue to fuel my passion for Madden gaming
By Tee Epps
The beginning of organized team activities and training camps are strong indicators that a fresh season of football is right around the corner.
Whoever shares the same enthusiasm for the game of football, such as I do, may compare the joy of its return to celebrating your favorite holiday. It's especially true when you're engulfed with a team that you closely follow.
The San Francisco 49ers have been that team for me going on well over three decades. As long as the team remains competitive, I'll remain joyful.
Thanks to the new regime for establishing a more solid structure and building a strong roster since 2017, this Niners team has consistently found itself knocking on Lombardi's door. And, yes, 2023 promises to be more of the same emotional roller-coaster ride of a season, and I'm all for it. Anytime I come across a few training camp clips or videos, there's always a feeling of dissatisfaction because I'm left yearning for more action.
That's exactly where EA Sports' Madden NFL football simulation game comes in.
Named after the legendary coach who left an indelible mark on the entire football community, the late-great John Madden, EA Sports has maintained its annual release since its inception. During the early years of its existence, EA was facing a ton of competition among rival companies. Games such as Tecmo Bowl, Joe Montana Football and even 2K Sports all tried their hand at sustaining longevity.
But, in the end, Madden outlasted them all.
With eye-popping graphics, smooth playing mechanics and different game modes that cater to your style of play, it was easy to see why folks gravitated to this franchise. However, when you're in an arena all alone with no competitors to motivate greatness out of you, your product may become a little stale and redundant.

Although Madden football has fallen into this category over the last several years, it still remains a decent enough game to escape reality with. Taking virtual control over the NFL's real-life counterparts and statistically manipulating the outcome to your heart's content, is such a gratifying feeling.
Whether you're competing against friends, family or someone across the country, the stakes are always high when bragging rights are on the line.
The NFL season is closing in fast and Madden football is closing in faster. So, if your hands and/or fingers are itching for any type of football, you may be able to fill that void when Madden 2024 releases on Aug. 17.
