49ers vs. Chiefs absolutely needs to be a primetime game
As we wait for the 2024 NFL schedule to be released, we can speculate who the San Francisco 49ers will face in prime time.
The set of opponents for San Francisco is stacked. Besides their NFC West roommates, the Seattle Seahawks, Arizona Cardinals and Los Angeles Rams, the Niners will take on some familiar faces with the Miami Dolphins, Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys.
The NFL allows teams to be in prime time up to six times. Every team will play at least one game on Thursday night, Sunday night or Monday night, which is the primetime slot.
The 49ers should be at the maximum when the new schedule drops. They're the reigning NFC champions and boast the best offensive roster with quarterback Brock Purdy leading the way, their defence will be flying and expected to be in the Super Bowl once again.
This may be obvious, the NFL needs to have the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs in a primetime spot.
Not on a Thursday and not the game before Sunday Night Football. This matchup MUST be on a Sunday or Monday night at Levi's Stadium.
The 49ers and Chiefs are a rivalry in the making. San Francisco hasn't beaten Kansas City since quarterback Patrick Mahomes took over. There might be more traction if the Niners can come away with a regular-season victory just months after losing the Super Bowl.
San Francisco matches well with the Chiefs for the first time in nearly a decade. We saw it during the Super Bowl when the 49ers held a lead in overtime. But they weren't getting blown out. They answered KC in all aspects, just couldn't finish the job.
The quarterback matchup of Purdy and Mahomes is a primetime title as it is. But with the recent additions both teams have made through free agency and the NFL Draft, you can pick out any position battle and dub it as primetime.
All eyes will be on the NFL on May 15th, when the 2024 schedule comes out.
