The 49ers are poised to make some big changes in 2025, as it's clear some fresh blood might need to step up for them to return to their winning ways.
With 2024 a lost cause, San Francisco 49ers fans everywhere are just looking toward the end of the season and hoping that 2025 will bring a bit more of what we're used to when it comes to performance.
Such seasons aren't uncommon, and the Niners haven't been out of the playoffs for long in the head coach Kyle Shanahan era.
But, with quarterback Brock Purdy due a big contract, it means the roster is due for a bit of an overhaul.

Who on the roster won't be around in 2025, though?
It's impossible to tell for sure, but it's time to look at the crystal ball and see who probably will be wearing different colours in 2025.
WR Deebo Samuel
Wide receiver Deebo Samuel has been a big servant for a long time since being drafted, but maybe changing to the No. 1 jersey has been a curse because not only has he been below par in terms of his performance on the field, but his diva-ish antics off it have been a distraction this season.
From confronting teammates in an unacceptable fashion to complaining about his targets, as opposed to the fact he keeps dropping the ball.
The truth is Deebo's usage in the offense hasn't been very different from last season, with 81 targets as opposed to 89 targets in the same amount of games last year. Efficiency is down but not incredibly so, with 51 receptions (down from 60) and 670 yards (down from 892, admittedly a bit larger) this season.
But truthfully, with fellow wideout Jauan Jennings emerging as a big weapon and rookie Ricky Pearsall flashing the ability that made him a first-round pick, the time might be right to move Samuel on to a new team in the offseason.
LB De'Vondre Campbell
We all knew this was coming.
Unlike Samuel, who might simply just need a change of scenery, linebacker De'Vondre Campbell shouldn't see an NFL field again after he abandoned his team when they needed him.
And it was utterly bizarre. Everyone knew Campbell was filling a role vacated by Dre Greenlaw. When Greenlaw was coming back, he was coming back as the starter.
Maybe Campbell didn't get the memo, but it just seemed ridiculous.
Campbell was not cut by San Francisco, with the 49ers opting to suspend him for the rest of the season without pay to ensure he couldn't recoup any game checks for the rest of 2024.
There's not much that needs to be said other than that. He quit on the Niners and showed 31 other teams in the league that he can't be trusted.
He'll maybe get a training camp invite if he's lucky, but it won't be from the Bay Area.
P Mitch Wishnowsky and K Jake Moody
The last two players are placed together because it's no secret the 49ers special teams needs a gigantic overhaul, as it's a mess from top to bottom.
Unfortunately, this means kicker Jake Moody and punter Mitch Wishnowsky are on the chopping block as San Francisco simply can't tolerate the deficiency the special teams corps has produced several times this season.
WIth Moody, the former third-round pick simply cannot get himself going. Whether or not it's a confidence issue or not, Moody has only hit 71.9% of field goals in 2024 entering Week 18, and he hasn't been a trustworthy kicker. The 49ers spent a high resource on Moody, but it may be time to consider him a sunk cost and move on for 2025.
As for Wishnowsky, he's been a solid enough punter since being drafted, but he has suffered a bit of regression this season, and the Niners will be looking for cheaper options wherever possible and improve the special teams.
There will be more changes, of course, but these four 49ers players look destined for new homes or even new careers in 2025.
One thing is for certain, the team will certainly have a different look.
