The San Francisco 49ers need a boost on offense.

With star running back Christian McCaffrey out and the team scuttling, landing Las Vegas Raiders star wide receiver Davante Adams may be the best way for San Francisco to get a shot in the arm.

We know the Niners' general manager, John Lynch, is not afraid to make big trades during the season. He made a huge splash for McCaffrey back in 2022, and last season, made a big trade for defensive edge rusher Chase Young.

Right now, it looks like the 49ers could use some additions on both sides of the ball with how they have struggled. One key area they have struggled is with their red-zone offense. The Niners have been one of the worst red-zone teams so far this season and repeatedly struggled to score against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 5, which was a big reason why San Francisco lost the game.

One could make excuses and blame McCaffrey's absence, or the injury to kicker Jake Moody, which may have placed more pressure on the offense to score touchdowns since they could not rely on punter Mitch Wishnowksy to make anything more than a chip-shot field goal.

No matter what, the Niners just have not been good enough in this key area of the game.

That is why adding Adams could completely transform the red-zone offense.

Adams is an elite receiver and was the second-best red-zone receiver in the NFL last season even though he had quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Aiden O'Connell throwing to him.

Imagine how much better Adams would be if he had San Francisco's own, Brock Purdy throwing to him.

The 49ers are at a crossroads sitting at 2-3. With an aging corps of veteran players, they need to feel a sense of urgency this season. Who knows how many more postseason runs this group could have in them? They need to do everything they can to win this season, which is why a trade for Adams feels essential. The Niners have ample talent on the team without him, but adding Adams could make the offense unstoppable.

It may be an act of desperation, but that is where the 49ers are at right now. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and a trade for Adams may be just what San Francisco needs.
