Last August, San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York made infamous headlines after getting arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, as part of a prostitution sting by local authorities.

York subsequently pleaded no contest to what turned out to be two misdemeanor charges, paid a fine and let the legal matter close itself out.

However, the NFL's own investigation into the matter would take time.

On Friday, two days before the Niners host the Denver Broncos in a Week 4 showdown, the league announced its punishment for York for violating the personal conduct policy, which applies not only to players and coaches, but to owners and front-office personnel, too.

Jed York fined $500,000 and suspended 6 regular-season games

Several media outlets and insiders, including NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and ESPN's Adam Schefter, reported the news surrounding York's punishment.

York was quick to respond to the announcement, accepting the punishment and vowing to earn the fans' trust back after the embarrassing incident:

Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision in full.

To my family, to the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, to our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry.

This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility. What I did does not reflect my values or the man I strive to be for my family.

While I fell short of the model I want to set for my sons, I now hope to show them the importance of owning up to one’s failures, and that even our worst moments teach us to be better.

Leading the 49ers is a privilege, and one I don’t take lightly. Your trust will have to be earned back over time, and I look forward to that work ahead.

Previously, York had been awfully quiet since the arrest, and Schefter subsequently clarified why. According to the ESPN insider, San Francisco's owner has "stayed away from the 49ers' first three regular-season games as well as from NFL league meetings."

York will be eligible to return on Oct. 20.
