NFL analyst can't stop spreading rumors about Kyle Shanahan landing with the Bears

Would you stop it already?

The 2024 season was supposed to be another sensational year for the San Francisco 49ers, but that's not how things have played out at all.

Suddenly, with his first losing season since 2020, head coach Kyle Shanahan is being written off by the talking heads.

Well, let me rephrase that -- Shanahan is being written off as the Ninerss' head coach. Suddenly, Shanahan, who has led his team to two Super Bowl appearances during his eight-year tenure in San Francisco, is not good enough for the 49ers but is good enough for another franchise to bring in.

More 49ers news:

This is what Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio previously implored earlier this month, suggesting the Chicago Bears work out a trade with the 49ers that would send Shanahan to the Windy City.

Well, Troy Aikman, who was on the call for Monday Night Football, revisited that theory and is all about it.

"There has been discussion about 'Do you give up some picks and see if you can maybe make a deal for a guy like Kyle Shanahan?'" Aikman said on the broadcast. "I would be all-in on that because he would develop a quarterback and is a hell of a coach."

Troy Aikman continues to float Kyle Shanahan-to-Bears rumor

While Aikman did admit that he didn't come up with the idea on his own, it didn't seem to matter to him that 49ers general manager John Lynch said any discussion on Shanahan losing his job in San Francisco was "rather comical".

Now sometimes, when the GM says things like this, you can't help but roll your eyes, but this wasn't one of those instances. Lynch backed his head coach saying that the team had been to two Super Bowls and won four division championships under Shanahan.

That wasn't enough for Aikman to continue to speak this rumor into existence, though. My question is this: If Shanahan is good enough for the Bears to trade everything under the sun for, why wouldn't he be worth keeping in San Francisco? If he's so good at developing quarterbacks, why wouldn't the 49ers continue wanting him in San Francisco to work with Brock Purdy, who they'll likely end up extending and making a franchise quarterback?

We're not even in the offseason yet and these rumors are already starting. So buckle up, Niner fans. It's going to be a very annoying offseason for this team.
