Amid the San Francisco 49ers' 6-0 start, one of the early signature moments has easily been Mike Evans' epic troll of Trevon Diggs. In Week 5 against the Seahawks, Evans grabbed Diggs' shoulders and turned him around to see the name on the back of his jersey, as if to say, "Who am I even talking to?"

The interaction was nothing short of hilarious at the time, and it circulated through social media, as out-of-pocket moments like that usually do. But recent events might have put a damper on the entire situation.

On Friday, Trevon Diggs was released by the Seahawks, capping off a complete career meltdown for the cornerback.

The writing was on the wall after Diggs played just four snaps against the Broncos in Week 6, but his new free agent status represents a fall from grace that culminated when Mike Evans treated him as completely irrelevant.

Mike Evans' disrespectful act was Trevon Diggs' career-low moment for all of a week and a half before it was topped. Now, he is left looking for a new job, and who knows if he will find one.

It wasn't always such a gloomy career path for the pass defender. Diggs followed up a promising rookie campaign with a blistering 11-interception effort. He earned All-Pro honors that year and the year after that, and all signs pointed to the Dallas Cowboys having one of the league's best corners for the foreseeable future.

A torn ACL, among other complications, led to Dallas waiving Diggs in 2025. He then signed with the Packers, but only for a brief period.

Seattle was Diggs' third stop. After failing to leave a mark in both Green Bay and Seattle, he may be running out of time to prove he can still perform at a high level.

Evans' antics were insult to injury. Whether he played a part in Diggs' release or not is anybody's guess, but it certainly didn't help to see the defensive journeyman get treated like a nobody.

Mike Evans showed just how little of an impact Trevon Diggs made on the 49ers' offense

Trevon Diggs gave it everything he had in his eight snaps against San Francisco. He played with the emotion and fire any coach would want in their defenders. Yet it had absolutely no impact on Mike Evans. In fact, his presence was so inconsequential that the future Hall of Famer laughed once he realized it was him.

The experience couldn't have been a good look for Diggs, and it certainly didn't aid him in his attempt to stick around in Seattle.

Whether Trevon Diggs finds another home remains to be seen, but his recent release certainly puts a damper on what was originally a humorous interaction between him and Mike Evans.
