John Lynch and the 49ers have no intention of being satisfied with just one defensive lineman in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The San Francisco 49ers needed defensive line help entering the 2025 NFL Draft.
The 2025 NFL Draft is loaded with D-linemen.
So, it shouldn't have been too big a surprise the Niners used their top pick, No. 11 overall, to select defensive end Mykel Williams out of Georgia with the hope he'll turn into an elite-level bookend to pair with All-Pro defensive end Nick Bosa for the foreseeable future.
That solves one problem. But San Francisco has plenty more.
In a press conference with reporters not long after the Williams selection, general manager John Lynch hinted there'd be plenty of additional D-linemen on the 49ers' radar.
John Lynch effectively confirms 49ers will draft more defensive linemen
There is no shortage of signs why Williams was the top priority, especially with defensive coordinator Robert Saleh apparently having serious influence on the Niners' top pick.
But the Niners still have holes to fill on the interior of the D-line, and Lynch was quick to point out more assets will be used to address this.
"We got 10 more picks, and he won't be the only D-lineman," Lynch said, via Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area.
This could indicate San Francisco will use one of its three picks on day two of the draft (Nos. 43, 75 and 100 overall) on another lineman, potentially two. And it wouldn't be a shocker to see a flier or two used late on day three where Lynch and Co. have had some notable success over the years on late-round gems.
There are still other needs, but it appears the 49ers are getting back to their roots: prioritizing the D-line first overall.
