Veteran tight end George Kittle has been at the annual Tight End University, and he has been showing off his progress in his recovery from a ruptured Achilles. Kittle was on the field moving around, and he was adamant he has a chance to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season.
That’s not the only thing Kittle said at TEU, though. In an interview with ESPN, the veteran tight end was asked about how strong the NFC West is, and he explained that he feels like the division has been pretty strong for at least the last five years. Kittle praised the Seattle Seahawks and their home-field advantage, and also the talented Los Angeles Rams and the genius of Sean McVay.
The tight end made sure to mention that he Niners are also always talented, and a super gritty team.
Notably, he didn’t mention the Arizona Cardinals, and fans made sure to point out that omission, making fun of Arizona being the least competitive team in the NFC West.
George Kittle doesn’t even mention Cardinals when talking about competitive NFC West
Kittle could have been being petty, but he was likely just being honest. It’s been a while since Arizona has been relevant in the division, finishing last in the NFC West three times out of the last four years, and third in the other year. Just last season, the 49ers and Rams won 12 games, while the Seahawks won 14, and the Cardinals had only won three.
Despite Arizona’s struggles over the last four years, there is a sense of promise surrounding the team. In a recent ESPN piece, ranking the offensive weapons (WR, TE, RB) of all 32 teams, the Cardinals were ranked sixth on the list. With a young core of Trey McBride, Marvin Harrison Jr., Jeremiyah Love, and Michael Wilson, the belief is Arizona is building a great foundation to be successful.
Of course, football is about more than flashy weapons. The Cardinals will need a solid offensive line and good defense, and obviously, a quarterback.
If Arizona can find those things soon, the Cardinals could insert themselves into the NFC West conversation.
