George Kittle is relishing 49ers' drama-free offseason vibes

The Niners' drama appears to be in the rearview mirror.

While the 49ers' offseason hasn't been normal, George Kittle pointed out the positive changes from previous years.

It certainly seems as if every single San Francisco 49ers offseason is a stressful one, and the last five-plus years have indicated as much.

True, 2025 was stressful, especially in light of the Niners' cost-cutting measures that resulted in numerous player departures, including well-known names like wide receiver Deebo Samuel and linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

However, the drama seemed to end there, and All-Pro tight end George Kittle has taken notice.

Kittle has been around for plenty of San Francisco's offseason headaches. A year ago, he witnessed wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's tense extension talks with the franchise while offensive stars Christian McCaffrey and Trent Williams held out from workout programs while awaiting new deals of their own.

The year before, Kittle saw defensive end Nick Bosa hold out almost all the way to the regular season before receiving an extension that made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in league history at the time.

Oh, and there has been plenty of quarterbacking drama, too.

This year, though, Kittle is enjoying a relatively drama-free offseason.

George Kittle is 'glad' 49ers aren't having a 'drama-filled offseason'

Speaking to Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area, Kittle revealed about the only point of wonder facing the 49ers this offseason is quarterback Brock Purdy's own looming contract extension.

Unlike some of the previous holdouts, though, Purdy was in Santa Clara for the opening phase of offseason workouts, suggesting no holdout will happen.

"The only difference is, a quarterback’s contract is significantly and astronomically different than a tight end’s contract," Kittle explained when comparing his extension talks to those of Purdy. "[I'm] just trying to be realistic with him and trying to connect it as best I can."

General manager John Lynch checked off the box to extend Kittle earlier this offseason and also gave cautious-but-optimistic updates on discussions with Purdy.

Most importantly, though, Kittle feels the offseason isn't generating any controversy in the building.

"I’m happy that we don’t have a bunch of guys holding out for contracts," Kittle added. "I’m glad that we are not having a super drama-filled offseason. I think every year of my career we’ve had a quarterback controversy at some point. And to not have that, it’s going great.

"“And just when you have everybody in the building or the majority of the guys in the building, just the energy in the locker room is fantastic, the weight room is awesome, guys are working really hard. We have a lot of new free agents this year, so you want to meet everybody. You want everybody to get to know you before you get into the grind of training camp."

Positive vibes from Kittle. That's almost always a good thing.
